Lower Silesia is a remarkable region, especially when it comes to castles and palaces. These buildings are not only beautiful but are also key to the region’s history. It’s no wonder that many castles and palaces in Lower Silesia attract visitors.
Visiting the castles and palaces of Lower Silesia is not only a trip back in time but also an excellent opportunity to admire the beauty of nature. Many of them are located in picturesque locations, surrounded by forests, hills, or rivers, making them ideal places for walks, picnics, or photo shoots.
How many are there? In the entire Lower Silesian province we can find more than eighty castles. For that, you will find several hundred palaces in Lower Silesia. It is a challenge to see all the monuments in the region, so I have chosen a dozen or so places to start with.

Ksiaz Castle
Książ Castle is one of the largest castles in Poland and one of the most important monuments in Lower Silesia. The history of Książ Castle dates back to the 13th century. Over the hundreds of years, much has changed, and the castle has changed both its shape and its owners.
It is the third largest castle in Poland, which can be felt during a visit ? Add to that a tour of the underground, the park, the palm house, and… a whole day out! I would add that the interiors of Książ Castle are equally impressive. Here you can admire the beautiful ballrooms, elegant suites and learn a lot about history. Visiting Princess Daisy’s apartments, you will learn about the fate of the last owners of the castle. For during World War II the castle was taken over by the Nazis and became the site of mysterious work, the construction of the Riese Fürstenstein complex.
A place loved by me primarily because of its beautiful architecture. The halls with wonderful fireplaces are so memorable that I remember visiting them when I was a little girl.
Who won’t like this castle? If you avoid crowds, you’d better not go in high season.
Czocha Castle
This is one of the westernmost castles in Poland with defensive functions. The castle was built in 1247 as a fortress, and it is definitely the castle that has the most turbulent history in the Silesian lands. Not all the stories are known, for example, according to many stories, the military hid an Abwehr cipher school there during World War II. Was this the case? To this day it remains unknown! Interestingly, after the change of borders, the facility was secreted and completely disappeared from the map!
The stories told by the guide add to the magic and mystery of the place. It is also worth seeing for its style – the castle is extremely picturesque, with great scenery and a beautiful library. This is a real treasure of Lower Silesia, which combines history, architecture, and nature.
Who won’t like it? I really don’t know. This is my favorite castle in the region ?

Kliczkow Castle
Kliczków Castle, according to many tourists, is the most interesting castle in Lower Silesia. A castle with a rich history dating back to the 13th century (founded in 1297), it is one of the most distinctive sights in the region. The exterior structure of the castle, with its towers and turrets, and brick facades, makes the building impressive.
In addition, the castle is surrounded by an English-style park of eighty hectares. There is a remnant of an unusual cemetery: for horses. Today, after extensive renovation, the castle houses a hotel and spa. It’s a great place for a vacation, whether you’re looking for luxurious accommodations, an inspiring place for a conference, or just want to experience a bit of the history of Lower Silesia.

Bolkow Castle
The history of the castle dates back to the 13th century, or more precisely to 1277. It was then that the construction of this castle began on the order of the Legnica Prince Boleslaw II Rogatka. The architecture of Bolkow Castle, despite its long history of numerous reconstructions, has retained its medieval character. In Bolkow Castle you can see well-preserved defensive elements, such as walls, towers, and gates.
Bolkow Castle is embedded in my memory as one with a wonderfully sweeping view of the nearby fields. The wind streaking your face, the beautiful sunshine, and the small number of tourists on a summer morning encourage you to visit even in the high season.
Who won’t like this castle? For those who prefer Renaissance-restored castles, medieval stories are not their passion.
Swiny Castle
Swiny Castle, located near Bolkow, although less well-known than some other castles in Lower Silesia, is certainly worth a visit. One of the most interesting aspects of the castle is the setting: the castle is situated on a rock, surrounded by extensive forests.
It was built as a Castellan’s stronghold and its history dates back to at least 1108. Over the centuries the castle was owned by various aristocratic families, so it was later transformed into a residence. Today the castle is in a state of protected ruin. Despite the massive destruction, many elements, such as the Gothic entrance portal, are still visible.
Interesting fact: there is a legend about a tunnel between Bolkow Castle and Swiny.
Grodno Castle
Grodno Castle is located on top of Choina Mountain, at an altitude of about 450 meters above sea level, which makes for an extremely picturesque view of the surrounding area from its walls. The history of the castle probably dates back to the 13th century, having been built as a defensive fortress. The castle has undergone many changes over the centuries, both architecturally and in terms of ownership.
The castle building contains numerous rooms, some of which are open to the public. Permanent exhibitions are presented in the castle, and numerous artifacts can be seen there, such as armor, furniture, weapons, and various artifacts from different eras. Today, Grodno Castle is a popular castle, offering not only sightseeing tours but also the opportunity to participate in numerous cultural events, such as concerts, historical shows, and festivals.
Karpniki Castle
Karpniki Castle is a unique, romantic residence with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Built-in the 14th century, the castle is a true, originally medieval defensive castle, with a moat and a tower guarding the entrance. The surroundings of Karpniki Castle are also stunning. The castle is located at the foot of mountains such as Sokolik and Krzyzna Gora. It is a place that offers excellent opportunities for walking and communing with nature.
Nowadays it serves as a hotel, offering guests comfortable accommodations in historic interiors It is an ideal place for those looking for a unique atmosphere and tranquility.

Prince Henry’s Castle
Prince Henry’s Castle (Zamek Księcia Henryka) was built in 1806 as artificial ruins of a hunting castle. Such was the fashion at the time to build atmospheric, atmospheric ruins. This hunting castle was built in a neo-Gothic style, and its ruins offer an amazing view of the sosnówka reservoir and the surrounding mountains.
Who won’t like it? If you are looking for a place where there is a lot to see, and nature is not your passion, Prince Henry’s Castle may not be what you are looking for.
Topacz Castle
Topacz Castle is located not far from Wroclaw. However, do not let the name mislead you, for it is actually a manor house. The manor house in Sleza, for that, is its original name, was built in the 14th-15th centuries. The mansion is surrounded by a picturesque park, and on its grounds is the Motorization Museum, which houses a unique collection of cars and motorcycles from various eras. Topacz Castle, on the other hand, is open only to hotel guests and restaurants.
Who won’t like it? Like Wojanow, it may not appeal to those who like guided tours.

Grodziec Castle
Grodziec Castle is one of the most picturesque fortresses. This castle is unusual because it is located on top of an extinct volcano! The history of Grodziec Castle dates back to the 12th century, and the castle itself consists of an upper castle and a pre-castle. Numerous cultural events are held on the castle grounds, such as concerts, plays, knightly tournaments, and craft demonstrations. There are numerous rooms in the castle, such as the Knight’s Hall, the chapel, and the cellars. A guided tour of the castle is a real trip back in time and it is definitely worth choosing this form of sightseeing.
This late Gothic castle is now one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Lower Silesia, due to its landscapes, history, and architecture.
Palace in Lubiechowa
The Palace in Lubiechowa is a historic building located in Lower Silesia. This palace from the 18th century is an excellent example of classicist architecture. The interiors of the palace impress with carefully restored architectural details. The palace is surrounded by an extensive park.
Today, the Palace in Lubiechowa serves as a hotel. I slept there and can recommend it: comfortable rooms, tasty breakfasts. This picturesque place combines history, culture, and natural beauty, being an attractive point on the map of Lower Silesia.

Wojanow Palace
The history of the palace in Wojanow dates back to the 13th century. True, the palace was not there, but there were knights’ estates. The palace was not built until the 17th century. This neo-Gothic monument is surrounded by a vast, picturesque park, with numerous alleys, romantic bridges, and a pond. Wojanow Palace is a true gem of the Valley of Palaces and Gardens.
Who won’t like this palace? Certainly, those who like guided tours, as the building is open to hotel guests and restaurants.

Lomnica Palace
Lomnica Palace is located, as the name suggests, in the village of Lomnica. This palace, with a rich history dating back to the 17th century, is one of the most beautiful monuments in the region.
Lomnica Palace was built in the Baroque style. The main palace building is distinguished by its elegant facade, symmetrical windows, and decorative turrets. Currently, the palace houses an interior museum, which presents exhibits related to court life. As a result, Lomnica Palace is a well-known place among art and history lovers.
The palace complex also includes the “Widow’s House” mansion, today there is a hotel and restaurant inside.
