The Best Beaches of the Greek Peloponnese

The Peloponnese Peninsula is not one of the most popular destinations in Greece. This is a definite advantage, because you can find a beach just for you and visit attractions without crowds of tourists.

Today I am taking you to beautiful beaches along the Peloponnese. I will also describe the ones that are recommended, but for me were just average.

What Are the Beaches in the Peloponnese?

I think it can be useful to  group them. In my opinion, the most beautiful, long, sandy beaches are in the west of the peninsula. There, the water is definitely warmer, so swimming seemed more pleasant to me. On the other (eastern) side you can also relax, and many beaches are really picturesque, as located in coves or surrounded by charming towns.

Beach in Marathopolis

This beach is not a typical one, as there is no sand;, instead you can lie on deck chairs, drinking frappe, and in the evening relaxi while watching a beautiful sunset. Marathopoli is one of those villages that is rather not covered in guidebooks, and thus it has not lost its Greek vibe.

Vromoneri Bay

This is a place with limited parking spaces, so there are not many people there. The beach is picturesque, due to the fact that it is located in a small bay. Although at first glance it’s a sandy beach, there are some stones, so it’s not recommended for children (that’s what I read, I didn’t check it with my kids).

Kalorgia Beach

Kalorgia beach is located near Araxos airport and the national park. It is recommended not only by tourists, but also by residents of Patras – the largest city on the peninsula. Kalorgia is a wide, sandy beach with a long shore safe for children. Besides the water is clear, but this was the case at all beaches in the Peloponnese.

Voidokilia Beach

This is one of the more popular beaches in the Peloponnese. It looks cool from a drone, but you should know that the access road to it is tight and winding. Located between cliffs, the water sparkles in different colors. It is worth to know that, despite its popularity, there is no infrastructure (toilet or store). Although beautiful views await at the spot, it is worth going during the week, as there are incredible crowds on summer weekends.

Romanos Beach

Highly recommended in guidebooks, unfortunately it did not make a positive impression on us. The reason was the crowd, loud music and high fees for sunbeds. And in the Peloponnese, beach chairs are often included in the price of coffee, rarely costing more.

Make no mistake – the sand and water seemed really nice,so we drove a few kilometers further, to Petrochori.

Petrochori Beach (Near Romanos)

This is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been to in Greece. Fine, almost white sand. Azure water, with a really pleasant temperature (in season). A picturesque place for photos.

Not many people. Plus a cool frappe at a reasonable price.

Pigadia Beach

I don’t actually know the name of this beach, but it is located just before the village of Pigadia. It’s a small, sandy and rocky beach, where you can meet a diving fisherman in the evenings. It  is almost empty and is truly magical. You can hide among the rocks, waiting for the sunset, dive with a mask in search of fish, crabs or (deeper) sea urchins, and just feel like you are on a deserted island.

Papadimitriou beach at Xiropigado

At Xiropigado you will find several places to enjoy the beach. I recommend the beach, which is accessed by concrete steps, right next to the mouth of the river (dried out in summer). Although the water there is quite chilly due to cold currents and it is better to have shoes to enter the water, but it is intimate, you can listen to the sound of the waves or discover small caves.

Beaches: Portes and Astros

These are beaches located on the eastern part of the peninsula. They don’t have such white sand as, for example, Petrochori, but the sun shines just the same. The beach at Astros is really interesting because it is located on the outskirts of the town, which makes a fabulous impression. The water is pleasant, but there are usually a lot of people there.

Beach at Psifta

You will find many empty beaches in this area. There are several reasons for this, and one of them is the island of Poros and the Methana peninsula. This is where a large number of tourists go. Therefore, if you are looking for a beach just for yourself, this is a good place to go. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find fine white sand there (that’s how it happens in this part of the Peloponnese).

Does this List Cover all of the Beautiful Beaches in the Peloponnese?

Of course not. Peloponnese is really big and the choice of places to beach is really wide. As you might have noticed, for example, I have not been to the famous Elafonisos beach. This happened for several reasons, one of which was the huge crowd. I checked opinions in various places and local reviews, and came to the conclusion that I prefer to sit on a beach with less people.

If you have any other beaches in the Peloponnese to recommend, I would be happy to take your suggestions on my next visit ?
