Warsaw for Free. 10 BEST Free Things to Do

How much does a trip to Warsaw cost? A lot depends on what you want to do, where to eat and what to see. Yes, there are places that cost a lot, but  many interesting attractions are available for free. Sometimes for a whole week, sometimes during a selected period. There are really a lot of such free attractions in Warsaw, and in this post you will find only a few of them that I think are worth checking out.

I’m going to show you some interesting Warsaw spots that don’t even cost a zloty, but are definitely worth seeing.

Chopin Concert

In the summer, or more precisely, from May to the end of September, you can attend an unusual concert at the Łazienki Park (or Royal Baths Park). It is free to listen to the most famous compositions of Frederic Chopin. Recitals are played at 12:00 pm and a lot of people come. Most of people gather at the Chopin Monument, but the concert can be heard in several other places in the park. Originally the Chopin Concerts have been played live for years, in 2022 you can still listen to them while sitting in this amazing park. A great experience and atmosphere that I warmly recommend.

It is worth adding that there are many more concerts in Warsaw, including free ones.

Gardens on the Roof of the University of Warsaw Library

Rooftop gardens in Warsaw sound like some very expensive attraction to which you have to stand in line. And still, the gardens on the roof of the University of Warsaw Library are free! The view you get from them is breathtaking, and the green garden is simply gorgeous. Definitely, this is one of my favorite places in Warsaw. Anyway, I won’t tell you more – check the pictures!

Warsaw Museums for Free? We Got it

Warsaw for free? State museums in Poland always have one day on which you can visit them for free! This way you can visit the Wilanów Palace, the Warsaw Museum, the Warsaw Uprising Museum or the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Yes, for free – with one catch, you have to visit the museums on the selected day, which you can check on the website. In addition, the Night of Museums is organized every year in mid-May. On that day, you can visit more than 200 places! Besides, there are several museums that are free all the time.

Geological Museum

Separately, I would like to highlight interesting museums that are free all the time. This includes the Geological Museum, which is not only extremely photogenic, but interesting – tons of beautiful exhibits that can make you curious about the subject, despite the fact that you do not pay for admission! The Geological Museum in Warsaw is located at 4 Rakowiecka Street.

NBP Money Center

This is another museum that is great, and free! Whether you are interested in economics, finance or money, the exhibitions are simply interesting. In my opinion, this place should be on the “Must see” lists in Warsaw. It explains basic issues and complex economic processes in an accessible way, and tells the history – both current and that of hundreds of years ago.

The NBP Money Center is located at the headquarters of the National Bank of Poland in Warsaw, at 11 Swietokrzyska Street.

Ferry on the Vistula River

Another free attraction in Warsaw! During the summer, you can take ferries across the Vistula River for free! Ferries run on three routes:

1) Czerniakowski Cape (floating pier) – Saska Kępa (beach)

2) Poniatowski Bridge (waterfront) – National Stadium (beach)

3) Podzamcze Fountains (floating pier) – ZOO (beach)

Łazienki Park or Royal Baths Park

Visiting the museum is only free once per week, but this beautiful park is open all week! It’s hard to find another place like this in the city with so many different animals, beautiful plant species and buildings, sculptures and all of this free of charge. The Baths are stunning any time of the year, but spring and summer definitely rule!

Free Guided Walking Tour

A guided tour of Warsaw does not have to cost a fortune. Free tours are possible with various organizers, including Orange Umbrella Free Tour or Free Walkative, and let’s agree, a guide often knows such interesting facts about the city that you won’t read in a guidebook. Besides, you can meet other tourists and exchange experiences, not only in the context of Warsaw.

Watching Planes

There are several great spots in Warsaw where you can watch planes. In my opinion, one of the best is Spotters’ Hill, located right next to the Okecie airport. You can watch the planes taking off from there, you are not limited by a window pane (as at many points of this type) and take lots of photos or videos. A real treat for aviation fans! And of course, it’s free.

Outdoor Cinema

Outdoor cinemas only operate in the summer, but in my opinion this is the perfect time to visit Warsaw. When I didn’t live in Warsaw yet, I used to attend such open-air screenings and had a great time. Definitely, an outdoor movie is one of the great ways to spend a weekend in Warsaw.

Where are the outdoor cinemas located? You can find them in various districts of Warsaw, in parks or on beaches. Just type in the search engine.

Open-air Theater Performances

In addition to concerts and cinema, you can attend special outdoor theater performances. This year Polonia and Och-Theater have prepared a holiday schedule of performances to be seen in various neighborhoods. There are performances for adults, but also some for children. Did I mention that the summertime in Warsaw is well organized? ?

Film Trail of Warsaw

Countless movies and TV series have been filmed in Warsaw. Following their trail is a great idea for a trip. All you have to do is pick one movie or TV series and look for famous spots. There are tons of places, so you can travel like this for a really long time.

Park of Fountains

The square I Dywizji Pancernej, located in a short distance from the Old Town, is associated with just one thing: the Fountain Park. This place could not be missing from the list of free attractions of Warsaw.

The fountains operate during the summer season, shows taking place every Friday and Saturday. To be more precise: in May, June and July at 9:30 p.m., in August at 9 p.m. and in September at 8:30 p.m., but you should check the dates on the official Fountain Park website.

Are you in Warsaw in winter? Then you’ll see colorful streams of light instead of water!

How to Visit Warsaw for Free?

There are really a lot of ways to visit Warsaw for free and it would be hard to list them in one post. Besides, there are a bunch of paid attractions, but that’s an even longer topic – museums, galleries, viewpoints are just the beginning. ?
